School Trips and Clubs

School Camps, Events, and Trips are another exciting way for Maeroa students to build on the opportunities offered at school. These experiences help students develop confidence, independence, and teamwork skills as they explore new places and face challenges.

Our Outdoors Leadership Camps provide students with the chance to spend time in nature, develop resilience, and strengthen friendships through shared adventures.

Over the years, Maeroa has also enjoyed incredible experiences beyond New Zealand, including cultural exchanges with Makuhari High School in Japan, where students have shared language, culture, and lifelong memories. Opportunities may include hosting a student here or in New Zealand, and for some students to visit Japan as part of a larger group of Waikato Intermediate Schools.

Please note that some of these opportunities involve an additional cost to families, and details are always communicated in advance. Each event, camp, or trip adds something special to the Maeroa journey — learning through experience, connection, and discovery.

Clubs & Comps

Joining a club is a fantastic way to make new friends, discover new interests, and develop your talents beyond the classroom. Whether you love sport, music, being in the gully, debating, or Chess, there’s a club for most!

Clubs help you connect with others who share your passions and give you opportunities to learn teamwork, leadership, and creativity in fun, relaxed settings. Some clubs run after school, while others happen during sports break, so there’s always something happening at Maeroa.

Opportunities like EPro8, Lit Quiz, Show Quest, Science Fair, and WaiMaths, for example, take school clubs to the next level! These activities are perfect for students who enjoy a challenge and want to extend their learning through teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving. Joining one of these groups takes a bit more commitment, as students meet regularly to practise and develop the skills and knowledge needed to compete.

Make sure you listen carefully to the Daily Notices so you don’t miss out on new opportunities to get involved. Whether you’re trying something new or continuing a favourite hobby, joining a club is one of the best ways to make the most of your time at Maeroa and live our school values — Respect, Respond, and Participate! With so many great options available, the hardest part is often deciding what to join and figuring out how to fit it all into your busy, exciting week!
