School Vision

I Will Not Cease From Mental Fight

Maeroa Intermediate School was founded in 1954 as the first intermediate school in the Waikato region. Our founding principal, Mr Trevor Church, set a clear vision for a school that would cater specifically to the unique needs of emerging adolescents. Over the past 71 years, we have proudly built on that foundation, creating a school with a strong tradition of excellence, community, and personal growth.

Our vision – “I will not cease from mental fight” – lies at the heart of our school’s identity. This powerful statement, taken from our registered Coat of Arms through the Royal College of Arms, reflects our belief that life is a continuous learning journey. It represents our commitment to nurturing lifelong learners—young people who will grow into resilient, thoughtful, and capable individuals, prepared for their future.

The banner head on our Coat of Arms reminds us that learning is not confined to the classroom or to one moment in time—it is an ongoing process that requires perseverance, determination, and resilience. At Maeroa Intermediate, we believe in fostering a growth mindset in our students —a belief in their ability to improve, overcome setbacks, and strive toward their goals with confidence and courage.

“I will not cease from mental fight” also encompasses the values we aim to develop in every learner: grit, integrity, honesty, and a deep generosity of spirit. We encourage our students not only to pursue excellence in their learning but also to be kind, empathetic, and supportive members of our school community—people who uplift others, celebrate diversity, and act with mana.

    School Rules

    Respect, Respond & Participate

Our three school rules – Respect, Respond, and Participate - guide everything we do. They are more than just words; they shape how we learn, play, and grow together.

Respect - reminds us to value ourselves, others, and our environment.

Respond - encourages us to make positive choices, take responsibility, and act in ways that support our school community.

Participate- ensures that everyone is involved, giving their best effort and contributing to the opportunities around them.

Together, these rules create a safe, supportive, and vibrant school where every student can thrive. They help us build confidence, show kindness, and embrace challenges – preparing us not just for school, but for life beyond Maeroa.

Our School Vision, Values and Expectations are all reflected in our school Koru System.
